Introduction
Over the years the Vintage Motor Cycle Club has amassed a large collection of photographic images, both still and on film. These come from donations, individual archives and a small number of purchased items.
Whilst these have been carefully stored, we have only recently started to systematically catalogue them, with a view to proper curation. A steady programme of digitisation means that more and more of the collection has the potential to be easily accessed by the membership via the web.
The VMCC archive committee is now carrying out a feasibility study regarding the purchase of specialist software, in order to properly display such a large collection. A fully costed project brief will go to the management committee this summer.
Peter Hill, one of the library volunteers, has been working over winter to digitise a comprehensive set of slides from the J.A Smith Archive, of mid 1920’s glass negatives. We have selected a small sample that we think truly represents a golden era of motorcycling.
Almost all of these images lack titles, so as well as them being there for your enjoyment, we would also value your feedback regarding riders, machines, location.
In fact anything you can think of! As a member it would help us if you quoted your membership number.
