VMCC Website - Section Officers new services

April 28, 2026

The VMCC is pleased to announce the launch of its long awaited, revamped and much improved website. For most of the membership there should be little if any change to the content but you will notice a new modern look and feel to the site. The major difference you will notice is that your old method of accessing the Members Area will no longer work. As with all things on the internet these days additional security is unavoidable. To try and minimise the impact, we have kept the membership number as your log on id, however, you will now be required to create a new, more secure password of your own choice. When you try to log on you will need to request a Password Reset and provide an email address that matches the one in the membership database. This password needs to be at least 8 characters long and must not contain part of your name or email. Please check your spam folder if you do not see the email within a few minutes.

If you do not have an email address of your own then have someone else email hq@vmcc.net or myself steve@vmcc.net and we can manually create one for you. We can manually set a password for you but you must tell us what password you want that you can remember. As a last resort you can call the office and request Maddie create one for you, however, please bear in mind the staff are always very busy.

We hope you like the new site, please let us know of any problems you encounter, missing information, broken links etc.

Most of the changes are in the areas used by section officers for maintaining section details, events etc.

If you are listed as an officer of a section your log in should now allow you to access the Admin area of the website for your section(s). Click on the Wagtail symbol in the bottom right of the screen, select the Go to the Wagtail Admin option. You will now see a number of options on the left hand menu. The two of interest at the moment are Journal Submission (Section notes) and Snippets. Under Snippets you will see options to edit Events, News and Sections.

Events

Use this option to add, edit or select Events organised by your section. If editing or deleting find the event and select it, enter any changes then press the Save Draft. To delete an event completely click on the three dots (…) to the right of the title at the top. You can delete the event here. You can also copy an event if it is a regular meet.

To add a new event use the + Add Event in the title bar to the right of Events. Complete all the mandatory fields (marked with *) and anything else you feel relevant or appropriate.

Please note that the start and end locations of the event can now be displayed immediately on the map. If it does not automatically find the location based on the address given try entering the same address into Google Maps and then copying the co-ordinates into the Geolocation field, this should then locate on the map. Please note that due to the way the map works NONE of the existing events will automatically be shown on the map, they will ALL need to be edited to appear correctly. New events should appear once a valid location is entered. If the start is not an address such as a lay by or car park, you can move the pin on the map to be exactly where you want it. Over time as new events are added the map will be more useful or you can work through your events and set the location.

Sections

Operationally this works as above. Once sections have been selected you should see your own section listed, select it and edit as necessary. The location of the regular meeting place should be automatically displayed on the map. If not use Google Maps to find the location and past the co-ordinates into the Geolocation field or else move the pin to exactly where you want it.

There is a section called Section Officer Log, here you can add and edit officers of your section. You cannot delete an officer, if they have stepped down, simply add the date they did so and they will no longer receive bulletins etc. It is intended that over time we keep a record of all officers both past and present. If you need to add more members to have admin rights, simply find them and add as necessary, similarly you can remove people from having admin rights.

News

Use this facility to post news to the main site such as event changes (dates, times etc) or to announce new events to which all members are invited.

Journal submission

This replaces the Section Notes facility to send section notes to the journal and have them displayed on the web site. Complete the form with your details and section notes. If required upload and add a new image. This information will then be posted on the website and also in the next journal.

Use the Help section for assistance on all the above functions.

Any issues email me.
